Located on route 3, between Hodayah junction and Qiryat Mal'akhi, next to the gas station at Negba junction.
Regiment 53 was established in November 1947, and was known as Regiment 3 which comprised youths from the outlying neighborhoods of Tel Aviv and was called Giv'ati Brigade “the suburb regiment”. Later new recruits were taken on and the regiment became one of the top ones in the Givati brigade.
Up to February 1948 Regiment 53 carried out defense missions in the outlying areas of Tel Aviv, and participated in reprisals against insurgents. At the end of February 1948 the brigade was transferred to the south. Until the invasions of the Arab armies the brigade took a major role, together with the members of the local communities, in the defense of the area between Gedera in the north and Negba in the south, and from Nitsanim in the west to Kefar Menahem and Gal'on in the east .
When the Egyptian army invaded, Regiment 53 took the brunt of the battle to block it, and repelled the Egyptian attack on Kibbutz Negba.
In the Ten-Day Battles (July 7-18, 1948) the regiment took part in six fierce battles: Beit Daras, Ibdis, Julis, Gal'on, Negba and Keratya – and won them all. Later the regiment took part in decisive battles in the "Yo'av Operation" , in which the road to the Negev was cleared.
The suburbs youth, the new immigrant basic trainee and new recruit field forces proved their worth as courageous fighters who fulfilled their missions with great heroism. 145 of the members of the regiment and local communities fell in the battles, and hundreds were wounded.
The members of the regiment and their comrades in arms from the communities of the south are commemorated in the hilltop monument, together, just as they fought side by side.
